My physiotherapy clinic was averaging 12-15 calls per month from Google when I first checked the analytics. That was after 18 months in business. Most calls were from existing patients. New patient discovery via Google was essentially zero.

Why Most Business Profiles Are Useless

Most Google Business Profiles in India are claimed but barely filled out. Business name, phone number, and that's it. Sometimes a wrong address. Often wrong hours. Usually zero photos. Almost always zero responses to reviews.

The 11 Things Most Businesses Forget

Complete Google Business Profile Checklist

Primary + secondary categories. Most businesses only set one category. Add up to 9 secondary categories. "Physiotherapist" + "Physical Therapy Clinic" + "Sports Injury Treatment" + "Rehabilitation Center" = 4x more search terms you appear for.

Services menu with descriptions and prices. In the "Services" section, add every service with a short description and price range. "Deep Tissue Massage โ€” 45-min session for chronic muscle tension. โ‚น800-1,200." Customers see this before calling.

At least 20 photos. Interior, exterior, staff at work (with permission), equipment, before/after (where appropriate), signage. Google weights profiles with more photos higher. Add new photos monthly โ€” activity signals quality.

Posts (the most ignored feature). Google Posts are like micro-blog entries that appear in your profile. Post weekly: new services, seasonal offers, health tips. Google rewards active profiles. Takes 5 minutes per post.

Respond to every review โ€” including negative ones. Google's algorithm factors in review response rate. More importantly: a thoughtful response to a negative review is more impressive to potential clients than a perfect rating.

Attributes. In the "More" section, fill in all applicable attributes: wheelchair accessible, women-led, accepts UPI, parking available, appointment required, walk-ins welcome. These appear in search filters.

Q&A section. You can pre-populate your own Q&A. Add the 5 most common questions you get asked, with your answers. They appear publicly and Google indexes them for search.

Booking button. Connect your Cal.com link to the "Book" button on your profile. Customers can go from Google search to booked appointment without ever leaving Google or calling you.

Business description (use your keywords). Write a 200-word description that naturally includes the services you want to rank for and the area you serve. "Physiotherapy clinic in [area]. Specialising in back pain, sports injuries, post-surgical rehab. Serving [neighborhoods]."

Opening hours updated for every holiday. Profiles with wrong hours get negative reviews and lose customer trust immediately. Update hours for Diwali, Holi, local holidays, summer breaks. Set it once per season.

Products section (even for service businesses). Add your key services as "products" with photos and prices. This creates additional indexable content and can show in Google Shopping results for some searches.

How to Get Reviews (The Part Everyone Struggles With)

The fastest and most reliable method: ask in person, immediately after the service, with a direct link.

  1. Go to your Google Business Profile โ†’ Get more reviews โ†’ Copy the direct review link
  2. Set it up as a WhatsApp message shortcut
  3. After every session/appointment/service: "Thanks for coming! If you have 2 minutes, I'd really appreciate a Google review โ€” it helps other people find us." Send the link immediately.
  4. Do NOT offer incentives (it violates Google's policies and can get your profile suspended)
  5. Follow up once after 3 days if no review โ€” some people intend to but forget

Review velocity matters: Getting 5 reviews in one week is better than getting 5 reviews over 5 months. Google interprets a burst of reviews as a signal of increased business activity and rewards it with temporary ranking boosts. Run a review drive โ€” ask all existing clients in one week.

What Changed in Our Business After 6 Months

Before: 12-15 Google calls per month, mostly existing patients. 4-5 new patients from Google per month.
After: 67-83 calls per month. 25-30 new patients from Google per month. Our clinic capacity went from 60% utilisation to 90% without any advertising.

The profile takes about 4-6 hours to complete properly the first time. After that: 15-20 minutes per week to post, respond to reviews, and add photos. That's the entire ongoing time investment.
